About Me

My first career was in marketing, before my husband and I set up our own independent wine business, which we grew to four shops. When we sold the business, it gave me the opportunity to think about what I really wanted to do next. I knew I wanted to do something I genuinely loved, and when I thought about where I was happiest, the answer was simple - in my garden.
 

That led me to retrain in horticulture and garden design. I studied at Sparsholt College, completing the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture, followed by the Certificate and Diploma in Garden Design, graduating with Distinction at both levels. During my studies, I also worked at a local plant nursery, gaining valuable practical experience and developing my knowledge of plants.

 

Since establishing Hannah Thomas Garden Design in 2020, I have continued to develop my skills, gaining a Distinction in the Construction Design Certificate at the London College of Garden Design. I am also a pre-registered member of The Society of Garden and Landscape Designers.

 

I have designed and delivered a wide range of gardens for private clients, charities, hospitals and property developers, from smaller planting projects to complete garden redesigns. In 2025, I designed ‘Sunflower Power’ showcase garden at BBC Gardeners’ World Live, which was awarded a Platinum Award and the People’s Choice Award.
 

My designs combine a strong understanding of plants with creative design and the technical knowledge needed to take a garden from the first ideas through to construction. Every project is different, and I enjoy creating gardens that respond to the individual site, the people who will use them and the way they want to live in their outdoor space.
